Morrow Contracts is one of Northern Irelands leading utilities contractors. The company services a wide client base including NIE, BT and NI Water and has grown significantly over the years. Quadra has been working with Morrow Contracts for over 20 years and this demonstrates how much of a trusted partner we have become in that time.

Initially Quadra was engaged to assist with ISO 9001 implementation and certification and has since gone on to help Morrow Contracts to achieve ISO 14001, ISO 45001, ISO 50001 and National Highway Sector Scheme for Traffic Management – 12D.

Quadra assists Morrow Contracts with the maintenance of these standards and as well the delivery of a robust internal audit programme across all the standards. We work closely with the internal HSEQ Department to ensure that the company gets maximum benefits for these standards and performs well during external certification audits.

The company was acutely aware of the need to maximise its success in tendering processes and one critical part of this strategy was to achieve certification to ISO standards. This due to the fact that ISO certification is often a core criterion in construction tendering processes and failure to have such certification can often lead to a low score or failure in a tendering process.

PM POWER is a customer-driven company, with a flexible approach to on-site power generation. With a vast experience of over 40 years in sales, engineering, and service of gas and diesel generating plants and equipment.

With 30 years’ experience in supporting businesses with an Integrated Management System (IMS) – Quality, Environmental and Health, and Safety Management Systems aligned with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001, Quadra were appointed by PM POWER to analyse their existing processes and measure them against the requirements of ISO 9001 Quality Management System, ISO 14001 Environmental Management System and ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management System with the objective of achieving accreditation.

What is an Integrated Management System (IMS)?

An IMS is a single system designed to manage multiple aspects of an organisation's operational line with multiple standards such as Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety. Integrating your Management System can bring many benefits such as avoiding duplication, using resource to implement and manage systems more efficiently and achieving more cost effective certification.

The process of implementation

The company realised the benefit that ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 certifications could bring to the business such as providing evidence of good governance and control, a competitive edge, standardising operational processes and setting a pathway for continuous improvement internally, through embedding Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety improvements within the organisation.

What did Quadra do?

Quadra met with relevant employees within PM POWER to understand the business operations, gather information and assess the existing Quality, Environmental and Health and Safety processes against the requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001.

After this, the outcome was an action plan to outline key steps and milestones for PM Power to achieve certification. Quadra developed process maps to meet the requirements of ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and ISO 45001 for the organisation.

Quadra carried out a full internal audit of the system and facilitated a management review prior to external audit.

What was the outcome?

Following the two stages of external audit, PM POWER was successful in the recommendation to achieve their IMS ISO 9001 Quality Management, ISO 14001 Environmental Management and ISO 45001 Health and Safety Management. Achieving this certification was of huge importance in recognising the high levels of control which were already in place and putting a robust and internationally tried tested framework in place for ensuring the health and safety management system continues to improve over time.
