Radius Housing – ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 Implementation
Radius Housing (formerly Fold) were awarded a contract to provide a Remote Telemonitoring Service to Northern Ireland (RNTI) as part of the TF3 consortium which comprised Radius Housing, S3 Group and Tunstall Healthcare Group. Remote monitoring (telemonitoring) is a clinical practice that involves remotely monitoring patients who are not at the same location as the health care provider. It is a convenient way for patients to avoid travel and perform some basic healthcare functions for themselves, allowing health and care professionals to look after vulnerable people without the need for frequent face-to-face consultations unless the need for these is clinically demonstrated.
As a condition of the RNTI contract Radius Housing were required to become ISO 27001 (Information Security Management System) and ISO 20000 (Information Technology Service Management) certificated, and therefore engaged Quadra to assist with the implementation and ongoing maintenance of both management systems on their behalf.
Radius Housing aimed to implement ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 over a 12 month period and subsequently achieve external certification to both standards. In addition, the organisation was committed to fully integrating both management systems to achieve increased efficiency and effectiveness, ensuring each function was aligned behind a single goal through a co-ordinated effort.
The approach we used for the ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 implementation projects utilised the project methodology ‘Plan, Do, Check, Act’ model. The planning phase of the project included a project start-up meeting with the key individuals at Radius Housing; a review and measurement of the organisation’s current arrangements and documentation in relation to Information Security management and Information Technology Service management, the performance of a gap analysis against the requirements of ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 and the development of a time-bound project plan.
The second phase of the project involved the development of ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 processes, assistance with the implementation of both standards and awareness raising with Radius Housing staff members. The ‘Check’ phase of the project involved the performance of a management review meeting, a full set of internal audits and review of outstanding project actions. Phase 4 of the project involved a follow up of internal audit findings to ensure continual improvement of both management systems.
Following the implementation of ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 Quadra assisted Radius Housing to source a UKAS Accredited external certification body and supported the organisation through the whole external audit process. Radius Housing was awarded ISO 27001 and ISO 20000 certification and continue to reap the benefits both management systems consistently provide. The implementation of ISO 27001 has helped the organisation not only to comply with RNTI contract requirements but also to manage and minimise risk exposure, enhance customer satisfaction and keep confidential information secure. In addition, the implementation of ISO 20000 has enforced a measurable level of effectiveness and a culture of continual improvement by enabling the organisation to monitor, measure and review their service management processes and services.
