Navi Group engaged with Quadra initially to assist with the implementation of ISO9001 for the Group. This decision was taken as part of the Company’s overall commitment to quality improvement.

The project started with a gap analysis, which was used to assess how closely Navi Groups controls and processes aligned with the requirements of ISO9001. This gap analysis was used to develop a bespoke action and system structure for Navi Group.  Quadra assisted with the implementation project from start to finish and worked closely with the Management Team Quality to develop a robust Quality Management System structure for the entire organisation. The project also included a full readiness review which simulated the external audit and indicated that the organisation was ready for external certification. External certification was successfully achieved in 2021 and was awarded by SGS. 

Following this initial engagement, Quadra was commissioned to assist with the implementation of ISO27001 for the TouchPlus part of the business. Quadra worked closely with the team to build a robust Information Security Management System. This involved a detailed gap analysis against the standard, development of risk assessment, risk treatment plans and information security policies and procedures. Quadra also performed a full internal in preparation for certification. Successful certification was achieved in 2023. Damian Keenan from TouchPlus commented as follows:

Morrow Contracts

Morrow Contracts is one of Northern Irelands leading utilities contractors. The company services a wide client base including NIE, BT and NI Water and has grown significantly over the years. Quadra has been working with Morrow Contracts for over 20 years and this demonstrates how much of a trusted partner we have become in that time.

Initially Quada was engaged to assist with ISO9001 implementation and certification and has since gone on to help Morrow Contracts to achieve ISO14001, ISO45001 and National Highway Sector Scheme for Traffic Management – 12D.

Quadra assists Morrow Contracts with the maintenance of these standards and as well the delivery of a robust internal audit programme across all the standards. We work closely with the internal HSEQ Department to ensure that the company gets maximum benefits for these standards and performs well during external certification audits.

Graham Construction

Graham Construction is one of Northern Irelands largest companies. This company has grown to provide construction, fit out and facilities management services through the UK.

The company was acutely aware of the need to maximise its success in tendering processes and one critical part of this strategy was to achieve certification to ISO standards. This due to the fact that ISO certification is often a core criterion in construction tendering processes and failure to have such certification can often lead to a low score or failure in a tendering process.

Quadra has been assisting Graham Construction with a range of projects for over 5 years and has helped the company to build a streamlined Integrated Management System for a wide scope of activities. These standards include:

The Health Information and Quality Authority Achieves ISO9001

The Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA) is an independent authority established to drive high-quality and safe care for people using health and social care services in Ireland.

HIQA’s mandate extends across a specified range of public, private and voluntary sector services. Reporting to the Minister for Health and engaging with the Minister for Children, Equality, Disability, Integration and Youth Affairs, HIQA’s role is to develop standards, inspect and review health and social care services and support informed decisions on how services are delivered.

As part of its strategic planning process, HIQA identified the need to implement a robust and externally audited Quality Management standard. Having considered the options, HIQA decided that achieving certification to ISO9001:2015 was the best approach and set about the journey of seeking a trusted adviser to assist. Quadra successfully tendered for and were awarded the project to assist HIQA in the process.

The project started with a gap analysis, which was used to assess how closely HIQA’s controls and processes aligned with the requirements of ISO9001. This gap analysis provided a very reassuring result and the decision was taken to progress towards full certification to the standard. Quadra assisted with the implementation project from start to finish and worked closely with the Quality and Risk and Compliance team to develop a robust Quality Management System structure for the entire organisation. The project also included a full readiness review which simulated the external audit and indicated that the organisation was ready for external certification. External certification was successfully achieved in November 2023 and was awarded by SGS.  Commenting on the assistance provided by Quadra Kathleen Lombard Head of Quality, Risk and Compliance with HIQA said:

Northern Ireland Hospice has been delivering palliative care to local people across Northern Ireland for over 35 years, their hospice care services both the community and in their buildings which they provide high quality, person-centred, holistic palliative care. They support and care for infants, children and adults who are living with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions. Their mission is to inspire and deliver excellent and compassionate specialist palliative care through effective service models underpinned by exemplary education, innovation, and research.

What is ISO9001 and ISO45001?

ISO9001

Over 1 million companies globally hold certification to ISO 9001 Quality Management Standard, placing them in ideal position to demonstrate to customers and stakeholders that they operate in accordance with the globally recognised standard. ISO 9001 allows organisations to improve control and manage core business processes. Not only will the standard enable these processes to be standardised, but it will also enable organisations to monitor and check effectiveness and identify when they are not properly applied. The most common reason for certification is that it is often a prerequisite in tender selection criterion. Therefore making them comparable with their competitors who may already have certification to the quality standard. Having a positive reputation and good personal relationships are no longer enough to guarantee contact retention.

ISO45001

ISO45001 can be applied to any organisation who wishes to establish, implement and maintain an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management, to enable organisations to provide a safe and healthy workplace by preventing work-related injury and ill health as well as proactively improving its OH&S performance.

Why ISO9001 and ISO45001?

Northern Ireland Hospice realised the massive benefits that ISO9001 and ISO45001 certifications could bring to the business in standardising operational processes through and setting a pathway for continuous improvement internally, through embedding Quality and Health and Safety improvements throughout the organisation.

The process to certification

Based on Quadra’s 30-year heritage in supporting companies develop Quality and Health and Safety Management systems aligned with ISO9001 and ISO45001 requirements, we were selected to assist and collaborate with Northern Ireland Hospice to achieve these overall goals.

What did Quadra do?

Quadra met with staff in Northern Ireland Hospice to understand business unit operations, gather information and access the existing Quality and Health and Safety processes against the requirements of ISO9001 and ISO45001. The outcome of this review was an action plan to provide an effective roadmap for Northern Ireland Hospice to achieve certification in both standards. Quadra developed process maps to satisfy the requirements of ISO9001 and ISO45001 and to reflect the operational requirements of the business and met with staff to raise awareness of the system requirements and assist in embedding the standards throughout the company. Following guidance through an implementation period, Quadra carried out a full internal audit of the systems across the organisation to assess and ensure readiness for certification and facilitated a management review in assessing the system prior to external audit.

What was the outcome?

Following the two stages of external audit, Northern Ireland Hospice were recommended for both ISO9001 and ISO45001 certifications first time and were pleased with the outcome. Achievement was of uppermost importance to all involved in standardising both Quality and Health and Safety Management processes throughout their diverse company, at an internationally recognised level.

Braid Mechanical & Electrical Achieve ISO 9001

Braid Mechanical and Electrical Limited, established in 1926 with the original name of ‘Nicholl Brothers (Electrical).’ In 1989 the company then changed the name to Braid, to distinguish themselves from their parent company and in 2021, transitioned from offering only electrical services but also now offering mechanical services. Braid’s core team consists of Site Supervisors, Electricians, Plumbers, Apprentices and Assistants. This gives the company a stable, experienced, professional workforce trained to deliver high standard services using the latest technologies and techniques.

Why did Braid chose ISO 9001?

Quadra were commissioned by Braid Mechanical and Electrical Limited to analyse their current business processes and measure them against the requirements of ISO 9001, the international standard for Quality Management, with the overall objective of achieving ISO 9001 certification.

ISO 9001 is a model which would allow Braid to improve controls and manage their core processes, allowing these to be standardised and enabling the organisation to monitor and check their efficiency as well as identify when they are not properly applied.

Implementation requires business processes to be examined, identify best practice, standardise processes and apply them consistently which allows for a solid platform for any organisations attempting growth and set the pathway for continuous improvement internally.

How did Quadra support Braid with the implementation?

Based on Quadra’s 30-year heritage in supporting companies to develop quality management systems, we were selected to assist and collaborate with Braid’s leadership to achieve the implementation of the quality management system inline with the ISO 9001 standard.

Quadra met with the staff from the business operations within the company to understand the operations, gather information and assess the existing quality processes against the requirements of ISO 9001. The output of the review resulted in an action plan to provide a roadmap to achieve certification.

Quadra then developed process maps to satisfy to requirements of ISO 9001 and to reflect the operational requirements of the business and met with staff to raise awareness of the system requirements and assist in embedding ISO 9001 throughout Braid. After receiving guidance on an implementation period, Quadra carried out a full internal audit of the system across the organisation to assess and ensure Braid were ready for certification. Quadra facilitated a management review in assessing the system prior to external audit.

Following both stages of external audit, Braid Mechanical and Electrical Limited were recommended for ISO 9001 certification. The achievement was of massive importance to all involved in standardising the quality management process throughout the organisation, at an internationally recognised level.
