Meath County Council receive ISO 45001 certification

Meath County Council have availed of the use of Quadra’s services for numerous years and Quadra assisted the organisation in preparation for compliance audit with a view to achieving ISO 45001.

What is ISO 45001?

ISO 45001:2018 is the International Health and Safety standard, released in March 2018, which provides a framework to effectively manage health and safety risk.

Implementing ISO 45001 can improve occupational health and safety, eliminate hazards and minimise health and safety risks. It allows organisations to be built around best practice processes and procedures which allows this to be mirrored across the organisation and set a high standard for consistent risk management which allows organisations to be more efficient in every area.

ISO 45001 can be applied to any organisation who wishes to establish, implement, and maintain an occupational health and safety (OH&S) management, to enable organisations to provide a safe and healthy workplace by preventing work-related injury and ill health as well as proactively improving its occupational health and safety performance.

The health and safety management standard can improve occupational health and safety. It focuses on employee physical and mental well-being which will help improve staff morale and allow for continual improvement of safety and focus, which will also increase trust from the public, future employees, and potential clients.

The process of implementation

What did Quadra do?

Quadra worked alongside Meath County Council to measure their existing Health and Safety controls and management systems against the requirements of ISO 45001 health and safety management standard. Actions identified provided Meath County Council with an effective roadmap to achieve the certification.

Quadra met with staff to raise awareness of the system requirements and assist in embedding the standards throughout the organisation.

Following guidance through an implementation period, Quadra carried out a full internal audit of the systems across the organisation to assess and ensure readiness for certification and facilitated a management review in assessing the system prior to external audit.

What was the outcome?

After the two stages of external audit, Meath County Council was successful in recommendation for the ISO45001 health and safety management standard certification. Quadra continue to assist Meath County Council by undertaking ongoing internal audits and providing guidance and support. Achieving and maintaining this certification was of massive importance in recognising the high levels of control which were already in place and putting a robust and internationally tried and tested framework in place to ensure continuous improvement for their health and safety management system over time.
